Dr. Debbie Fewtrell & the Austism Spectrum Disorder Kids Community TrustDr. Debbie Fewtrell, a Northland doctor, aims to become the first NZ’s “Defeat Autism Now’ doctor - working to collate and relay research, experience and knowledge into a system usable in New Zealand for medical practitioners to offer biomedical treatment of autism. The bio-medical treatment of autism is used extensively in the United States and looks at addressing the underlying bio-chemical dysfunction (such as gut or detoxification issues) that may be contributing to symptoms connected to the brain. With help from the Vodafone NZ Foundation, Debbie will be able to devote her energies to this full-time. She hopes this will mean that families with autistic children are able to make the most of international research, without having to travel to the United States, which is cost prohibitive to most families. « Back to 2004 recipient list | all recipients Debbie Fewtrell's monthly diaries |
