Te Rourou is committed to creating an equitable Aotearoa for our rangatahi.

At Te Rourou, we have a vision of an Aotearoa New Zealand where all young people have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. We want all rangatahi to have a sense of agency. We want to see each and every young person living a life they value – with a bright future ahead.

Right now, that’s not the reality.

One in five young people in Aotearoa are over-burdened and under-resourced. These young people are being locked out of opportunity by systems and experiences beyond their control, and face ongoing, complex challenges to their health, their education, and their relationships. Many of these young people live with material deprivation, struggle to find employment, experience racism, and interact with the justice system and protective services.

We are partnering with community and unlocking the magic of digital technology to halve the number of rangatahi experiencing exclusion and disadvantage in Aotearoa.

Celebrating 20 years of Te Rourou

We started writing a story two decades ago. It was a story of change, towards a vision for an Aotearoa where all rangatahi can thrive. This 20 year milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our past. Many hands have helped to write the story of who we are today. A story that has helped strengthen communities, ignite dreams and expand possibilities.

Join us on our interactive website as we reflect on each chapter, and welcome the next.

Our History

Te Rourou was established in Aotearoa in 2002. Since then,  One NZ has invested more than $48 million, to support the work of the Foundation. We’ve funded more than 1,000 community organisations in that time. We’re proud to be one of  the largest corporate philanthropic funders in Aotearoa. Our Foundation draws on the resources and skills of the One New Zealand team, allowing us to blend digital investment, corporate partnerships, operational and communications support, advocacy, and mentoring with philanthropic funding to build fast-paced, sustainable, and measurable change.
